Chiba Family Nambu Magariya(Tono)
Nambu magariya are the traditional L-shaped farmhouses one found throughout Iwate’s farming villages. The Chiba family house, built about 180 years ago, is counted among Japan’s ten most important private homes. Enjoy an excellent view of the valley, too.

ちゃぐちゃぐうまっこ（滝沢ー盛岡）
岩手は何世紀にもわたり日本で最も有名な馬の生産地のひとつです。装束で着飾られた１００頭ほどの馬のパレードは、その伝統の象徴です。チャグチャグは馬鈴の輪の擬音で、そのパレードは隣町の滝沢からも盛岡まで続きます。Chagu Chagu Umakko(Takizawa-Morioka)Iwate has been one of Japan’s most renowned horse producing regions for many centuries, and this festival parade of 100 brightly bedecked horses is the symbol of that legacy. “Chagu chagu” is an onomatopoeia for the cool ring of the horse bells as the group makes its way from neighboring Takizawa into downtown Morioka.

流鏑馬（盛岡、遠野）
武士の伝統的な狩猟着を身にまとい、神社の中を乗馬しながら　小さな木製の的を弓矢で射る、やぶさめは遠野や盛岡での毎秋の恒例となっています。
Yabusame Horseback Archery (Morioka, Tono)
These dramatic displays feature archers dressed in warriors’ traditional hunting garments galloping through the grounds of shrines aiming their arrows at improbably small wooden targets. Yabusame is an annual highlight of the fall festivals in Tono and Morioka.

山車祭り
秋に行なわれる岩手の山車の中でも、盛岡のような大都市で行なわれる山車がおそらく最高のものです。歴史の場面で飾られた大きな山車が祭囃子とともに狭い通り広い通りを行列します。
Float parades (various)
Though probably best known in bigger cities like Morioka, float parades are held all over Iwate in the fall. Great floats adorned with scenes from history and drama wend their way through streets both wide and narrow, accompanied by lively festival music.

鬼剣舞（北上）

Oｎi Kembai (Kitakami)
One of Iwate’s representative folk performing arts, Oni Kembai is easily recognized by the unique masks and costumes of the dicers – and by the fierce swinging of their swords. Accompanied by whistles and drums, Oni kembai is a magnificent spectacle.

早池峰神楽（大迫）

hayachine Kagura (Ohasama)
This sacred dance has been passed down unchanged for six centuries in Ohasama, at the base of Mt. Hayachine. Enjoy the combination of mystical and gallant in this dance performed in special costumes to the accompaniment of flute-like whistles and drums.

Chusonji Temple (Hiraizumi)
More than a millennium of history sits quietly in these hallowed grounds. 北山崎岬

石割桜（盛岡）
盛岡裁判所の前の巨大な桜の木は周囲３４メートルの花崗岩の間からのびています。この木は盛岡で一番初めに桜が咲くので、春の使者として愛されています。
Rock-Splittingh Cherry Tree (Morioka)
This great cherry tree in front of the Morioka District Court is growing up out of a giant granite boulder measuring 34 meters around. This tree is always the first in Morioka to bloom, making it a beloved herald of spring.

岩手山と八幡平

Mt. Iwate and hachimantai
Mt. Iwate, for which the prefecture is named, towers 2038 meters over the north-central Iwate region. Neighboring Hachimantai is famous for great views, rich alpine flora, and the mysterious forests of ice that form in water.

Tenshochi (Kitakami)
Named one of Japan’s 100 best cherry blossom viewing sites, Tenshochi’s 10,000 cherries are simply spectacular. In particular, the 2-km promenade area by the Kitakami River is jaw-dropping – a perfect venue for the late April to early May cherry festival.

Ryusendo Cave (Iwaizumi)
Iwate has a lot to do above ground, but there is also a surprising amount going on below. Stalactite caves honeycomb beneath the prefecture, including Iwaizumi’s Ryusendo., famous for an indigo and emerald 98-meter-deep subterranean pool with world class transparency. Sugawatari and Akkado are great for spelunking, while the underground waterfall in Higashiyama’s Rokando is impressive just to look at.

Fudo no Taki Falls (Ashiro)
White mist swirls around this 15-meter waterfall in the quiet woods of Ashiro. The mystical atmosphere that permeates the area may be a relic of its use as a training spot for Buddhist mountain ascetics.

Aspite Line (Matsuo)
Enjoy a scenic drive of nearly 27 km on Hachimantai, one of Japan’s 100 greatest mountains. When the mountain opens in spring, the Aspite Line is still flanked by five meters of snow on either side but these snow corridors themselves draw plenty of tourists.

Ishidoriya Sake Festival (Ishidoriya)
The best English equivalent for toji would probably be “brewmaster,” as the toji oversee the entire sake making process. Along with the toji of Niigata and Hyogo, Iwate’s Nambu Toji are considered to be Japan’s best, and are in great demand around the country. About 400 toji work in breweries across Japan; the own unique style and idiosyncrasies of each toji makes for delightful variations in Japan’s national drink.

Miyazawa Kenji Museum
Kenji was a true renaissance man whose lifework included poetry, literature, geology, and agriculture and agronomy. The museum introduces his life and opus in seven categories, which include Kenji’s faith, art, and personal materials. Audio, video, and photographic presentations make the life of Kenji come to life again. while you are here, check out the neighboring Dowa Mura Kenji theme park and nearby facilities like the City Museum.

秀衡塗は元々平泉の中尊寺や毛越寺で使われていたものです。この椀の模様は朱、黒、金の三色を使い分け、菱文、短冊などをあしらうが特徴です。Hidehira　Nuri　Lancqueware　（Hiraizumi Various)Hidehira Nuri was originally developed for use at Chusonji and mosaic Temples in Hiraizumi. The distinctive gold leaf diamonds of this ancient lacquerware are complemented by a spring and autumn floral motif.

羊羹は３００年ほど前　お寺で用いられたお茶菓子が起源と言われています。江刺岩谷堂羊羹はなめらかな口ざわり、濃厚な甘さと香りで有名です。Iwayado Yokan (Esashi)Yokan is a tea sweet that originated three centuries ago as temple fare. Esashi’s Iwayado Yokan is known for its great variety, smooth texture, and rich sweetness and aroma of locally grown adzuki beans.
